Located between Siena and Florence, in Gaiole in Chianti, the estate produces wines from 75 hectares of vineyards around the village of Ama.

Ama is known from the times of the Roman Empire, when it was owned by the Firidolfi family. Their original castle is believed to have been destroyed in the 15th century during the Aragonese invasions in the Chianti area. In its place, the new villas were built in the early 18th century. Today, the property is consisting of several villas and a little chapel.

The winery was given a second life in the 1970s when four friends replanted vineyards and renovated cellars. Today, the winery is still owned by the families and managed by the daughter of one of the founders, Lorenza Sebasti. The Bordeaux-trained Marco Palanti has been the estate’s winemaker since 1982.

The wines of Castello di Ama are highly rated by international critics.

If you pick an introductory tour, you will be tasting four Castello di Ama famed wines and local olive oil. You can upgrade your tasting experience to include the Great Classics, the Crus, or the historical bottles from the private collection. On your tour through the winery also discover contemporary art installations.

If you only have time for a tasting, you can taste 3 wines for a fee of 15 euros, which can be waived if you buy some wines.

The restaurant, Il Ristoro di Villa Pianigiani, is open every day except Tuesdays and serves excellent traditional Tuscan cuisine enhanced by the use of the local extra virgin olive oil, and the fine wines of Castello di Ama. Enjoy your lunch on a terrace with a view of rolling Tuscan hills.

Villa Ricucci is where you can stay at one of the suites furnished by precious antiquities. If you love fine wine, arts, quiet and scenic locations, and Tuscan gastronomy, Castello di Ama is the right place to be.
