Located between Siena and Florence, in Gaiole in Chianti, the estate produces wines from 75 hectares of vineyards around the village of Ama.
Ama is known from the times of the Roman Empire, when it was owned by the Firidolfi family. Their original castle is believed to have been destroyed in the 15th century during the Aragonese invasions in the Chianti area. In its place, the new villas were built in the early 18th century. Today, the property is consisting of several villas and a little chapel.
The winery was given a second life in the 1970s when four friends replanted vineyards and renovated cellars. Today, the winery is still owned by the families and managed by the daughter of one of the founders, Lorenza Sebasti. The Bordeaux-trained Marco Palanti has been the estate’s winemaker since 1982.
The wines of Castello di Ama are highly rated by international critics.
