Pierre Taittinger bought the Forest-Fourneaux house in the 1930s and relaunched the business under the Taittinger name.
Francois Taittinger added the family name to the labels and established the style of the house, relying on Chardonnay to launch a long line of elegant sparkling wines. Today, the house still remains under family ownership.
The Taittinger family created “Domaine Carneros” in the Napa Valley, California in the 1980s. In 2015 Taittinger became the first champagne house to create a vineyard in the United Kingdom.
Visits
Throughout the year, Taittinger welcomes visitors for guided tours. You will walk through the ruins of the Saint-Nicaise Abbey dating back to the 13th century, and the Gallo-Roman chalk quarries included on UNESCO’s list of Cultural Heritage.
The Abbey was destroyed during the French Revolution, but the cellars are still used for maturing bottles of the Comtes de Champagne.
Open from 9:30 am to 5:30 pm. Choose between French and English tours.
