The castle of Marques de Murrieta offers one of the best experiences in Rioja.

History, architecture, excellent wines, gastronomy and top-notch hospitality – you will find everything at this winery just a few minutes away from Logrono.

The Ygay Castle was built by Marques de Murrieta in 1852 to resemble a Bordeaux chateau. Marques was one of the pioneers of quality wine-making in Rioja. He learned the Bordeaux winemaking techniques to produce wines and introduced them at his property. Part of the tour at Marques de Murrieta is a museum devoted to the story of Marques Luciano. You will see how wine was made here in the past. Old winery equipment is carefully restored and you can even see it in action.

Since 1983, the estate is owned by the Cebrián-Sagarriga family originating from Galicia. Vicente Cebrián-Sagarriga undertook meticulous restorations of the Ygay Castle and reopened it for guests in 2014.

Wines of Marques de Murrieta have been rated very highly, including 100 points by Robert Parker, Wine of the Year 2020 by Tim Atkin. Castillo Ygay Gran Reserva Especial 2010 was the top 29th Wine of 2019 by James Suckling with 99 points.

Visits

The winery accepts visitors from Monday to Saturday from 9-30 am to 4-30pm.

From April to June and from September to October, additionally 4 pm to 6-30 pm Monday through Friday.

Closed on Sundays and from July 30 to August 24.
