The origins of Château de Candale date back to the days when Lady Margaret of Suffolk Kendal, a descendant of Edward III, the King of England and Duke of Aquitaine married Count Jean de Foix. He added Count of Candale (Count of Kendal) to his name. The chateau was later named after him.
Today this small 8-hectares winery is owned by Magali and Thibaut Decoster, a couple that manages three other properties in Saint Emilion.
On your tour to Chateau de Candale, you can also visit Clos de Jacobins and taste its wines.
The chateau also houses a wonderful gastronomic restaurant L’Atelier de Candale. My Saint Emilion wine tour clients love the restaurant. Try to get a table outside on a nice summer day.
