About

The Vicchiomaggio castle is one of the most beautiful castles in Tuscany.

Located on top of a hill overlooking the Val di Greve, just 18 km from Florence and 38 from Siena, Castello Vicchiomaggio played an important role in the defence of Florence during conflicts with Siena.

The history of the castle which was once named Vicchio of the Lombards, dates back to the 15th century, while its tower is believed to be constructed in 1100.
Leonardo da Vinci stayed at Castello Vicchiomaggio during the period when he painted his Monna Lisa.

Today, Castello Vicchiomaggio is a producer of internationally renowned wines. The owners, John and Paola Matta, have been preserving the centuries-old tradition.

Immersed in a park of more than 130 hectares, the castle an elegant holiday farm, a hotel, a restaurant, a wedding venue and a winery. Drop in for a tasting, come for a wine tour and a lunch, or stay at a magnificent castle with a restaurant.
