About

1855 Grand Cru Classe – 2nd Growth, Margaux

Antoine, the Knight of Lascombes, or Chevalier de Lascombes, who gave his name to the chateau is believed to have been born in 1625. He inherited the estate from the Durfort family.

The chateau changed owners numerous times. Among its owners was the Ginestet family, at the time, owners of Chateau Margaux, and Alexis Lichine, owner of Chateau Prieure Lichine.

In 2011, MACSF, the French insurance company, bought Chateau Lascombes for $300 million.

Today, the estate is the largest in the Margaux appellation with a vineyard of 120 hectares.

The estate possesses a very picturesque castle. The ground floor of the castle, a classic Bordeaux “chartreuse”, was built in the 17th century. Various successive owners each added to the building, particularly during the 19th century.
