The Best Luxury Hotels in Bordeaux Wine Country in 2024

These are 8 luxury 5-star hotels in Bordeaux wine country with excellent views of vineyards and gastronomic restaurants.

As I private wine guide in Bordeaux, I am often asked for recommendations of the best stays in Bordeaux wine country.

Here are my suggestions of the luxury hotels in the Medoc, Saint Emilion, and Pessac-Leognan wine regions of Bordeaux.

Les Sources de Caudalie is a hotel and a spa next to Chateau Smith Haut Lafitte, one of the top wineries of Graves.

Serenity, luxury, and the natural environment will surround you at Les Sources de Caudalie.

This 5-star hotel offers a wine spa, a 2-Michelin star restaurant, La Grand’Vigne, a country-inn restaurant, La Table du Lavoir, and a wine and snack bar. The lounge bar, Le French Paradox, is my favorite place to enjoy the view of vineyards and a calm lake after a spa massage.

Do not miss a chance to do a tasting of Chateau Smith Haut Laffite whites and reds during your stay.

The hotel is located approximately 30 minutes away from the center of Bordeaux and next to famous wine estates of Pessac-Leognan: Chateau Haut-Bailly, Chateau Carbonnieux, Chateau Latour Martillac.  Les Sources de Caudalie can be a good base for exploring Pessac-Leognan as well as other wine regions of Bordeaux – Saint Emilion and the Medoc.

Located in the heart of the Medieval village of Saint Emilion, 45 minutes from Bordeaux, Hôtel de Pavie offers panoramic views of Saint-Emilion and its vineyards.

Hôtel de Pavie houses a gastronomic 2 Michelin stars restaurant La Table de Pavieformerly known as La Table de Plaisance, with a large wine list.

Enjoy the most romantic views of Saint-Emilion at dawn with a glass of Chateau Pavie by the Perse family, the owners of the Hotel de Pavie. You can also request a visit to this world-famous chateau.

I recommend this hotel if you are interested in exploring Saint-Emilion wine country and staying in a village with access to restaurants and services.

Logis de la Cadene is in the picturesque 18th-century house on one of the steep cobblestone streets of Saint-Emilion.

You will be right in the center of the village.

The rooms are elegant and decorated with time-polished wood furniture, revived parquet flooring, and rare Chinese artifacts.

There is a gastronomic Michelin-star restaurant at Logis de la Cadene.  The property is managed by the owners of Chateau Angelus.

Château Lafaurie-Peyraguey Hôtel & Restaurant LALIQUE is in Sauternes wine region, approximately 30 miles south of Bordeaux.

In my opinion, this hotel is the best option for those looking for quiet time in a luxurious 17th-century castle surrounded by vines. Sauternes is known for its mysterious and romantic morning fogs and beautiful fall colors.

The hotel restaurant Lalique is rated 1 star in the Michelin Guide.   Imagine dining right in the vineyard?

You can taste local sweet wines at Chateau Lafaurie-Peyraguey or arrange a visit to the neighbor, the iconic Chateau D’Yquem.  The hotel is a great base for touring wineries in Sauternes and Pessac-Leognan

La Maison D’Estournel is located in Saint-Estephe near the Gironde river, a secluded area away from traffic and crowds.

This is a chic and romantic hotel excellent for a weekend escape.

Onsite, a cozy gastronomic restaurant serving meals made from local products and vegetables grown in their garden, is open for lunch and dinner.

Before dinner, have an aperitif on a beautiful sunny terrace with a glass of world-famous Cos D’Estournel or book a special tasting in the vaulted cellar of the house.

Stay at La Maison D’Estournel you want to spend time in the tranquility of wine country and explore top wineries of Pauillac and Saint-Estephe, including Chateau Mouton RothschildChateau PedesclauxChateau Lafon-RochetChateau Pichon Baron, and many others.

Atlas Bordeaux wine guide will pick you up from La Maison D’Estournel for your Medoc wine tour.

Hotel Grand Barrail is one of the most beautiful castles in the Saint-Emilion wine country.  The hotel is only a short drive from the village of Saint-Emilion.  You can also hike or bike through vineyards to reach the village from the hotel.

There is a gastronomic restaurant that serves the cuisine of the Southwest of France.  Enjoy a cup of coffee on a restaurant terrace with gorgeous vineyard views as far as you can see.

Hotel Grand Barrail also offers a spa that features a sauna, hammam, and 4 beauty cabins.

Located just next to famous wineries Chateau Cheval Blanc and Chateau Figeac, Hotel Grand Barrail is an excellent base for wine tours in Saint-Emilion and Pomerol.

Owned by the Cazes family (Chateau Lynch Bages), Chateau Cordeillan Bages houses a beautiful five-star hotel, a member of the Relais & Châteaux network.

You will stay at a 17th-century Bordeaux chartreuse with a library, a 25-meter heated outdoor pool, and a sauna.

The rooms and common areas are tastefully decorated with designer furniture and lamps by Franck Gehry, Andrée Putman, Achile Castiglioni, and Gae Aulenti amongst others.

Chateau Cordeillan Bages is not a producing wine estate today, however, it is surrounded by many top wineries of Pauillac and Saint Julien, which makes it an excellent base for the Medoc wine tours.

Cafe Lavinal located just around the corner is my all-time favorite for a delicious lunch in the Medoc.

Finally, not a hotel but an entire luxury chateau for a larger group in the Medoc, Chateau Malescasse in Lamarque between Margaux and Saint Julien is my recent find.

The property is impressive and it has already got excellent reviews.
