A picnic at a chateau garden overlooking a vineyard is a special experience. Share a bottle of Bordeaux wine over French picnic foods or a gastronomic creation.
Some Bordeaux chateaux will arrange a picnic for you by contacting a traiteur, a caterer who will arrange your picnic basket. A glass of local wine is often included and you can always buy a bottle from a winery boutique.
Picnic prices start from 30 euro per person. Typical fare: cheeses, salad, cold meats, a baguette or a sandwich, sweets and fruits.
Normally, picnics at chateaux will be organized between May and September. Order your picnic at least 1 or 2 days in advance of your visit.
Of course, picnics are the best outside on a good day. In case of bad weather, picnics are moved inside the chateau, which is usually a nice French room with a view.
